Plan of Action

 

2009 – 2010 KSNA Plan of Work

Issue 1:  Increasing food and labor costs compounded by inadequate funding can cause school nutrition programs to make changes that negatively impact their programs including wellness, staff training and nutrition training.
Desired Outcomes:  1.  Increase funding through reauthorization efforts.  2.  Endorse national food standards in order to stabilize food cost.

Issue 2:  Maintaining or increasing KSNA membership is an ongoing issue.
Outcomes:  1. Educate and encourage directors/districts to support professionalism through KSNA.
2.  Maintain or increase membership 3. Make training available through KSNA to meet state requirements. 4. Greater support for the association. 5. Increase in local chapters; our foundation.

Issue 3:  The increased complexity of child nutrition programs is driving the need for more training opportunities to ensure future program quality.
Outcomes:  1.  Public perception of the school nutrition professional will be enhanced.  2.  Peers will recognize trained members as school nutrition professionals. 3. Quality School nutrition programs will be recognized by their districts, communities, media and state legislators as essential components of the school day.

Issue 4:  As and association, we all need to be more aware of making less waste and  thinking “Green.”
Outcomes:  1. Educate members on ways to conserve and be more sustainable.  2. Move towards greener meetings and food shows.

Issue 5:   Need to partner with allied organizations to make sure School nutrition is a full integrated part of the educational process.
Outcomes:  1.  To partner with KASA and other school groups to develop nutrition “bites” for use in school PSAs, announcements…etc. 2. Further educate students in nutrition helping them make better food choices throughout life.
