KSNA Partners with Universities Fighting World Hunger

KSNA is partnering with Universities Fighting World Hunger(UFWH) to help eradicate hunger across the borders. UFWH is working on several projects in Ghana, Africa. KSNA advocates feeding hungry kids. Whether they are in Kentucky or Ghana, a hungry child warrants our help.

JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL, LOUISVILLE, KY

UFWH is working with Ghanian schools to develop a Sustainable Agriculture Program (School Gardens). Land has been allocated and the Kentucky Homemakers are assisting with funding to clear the land and buy seed. In addition, an irrigation system is needed for the gardens.

This is where KSNA can partner. An irrigation system can be purchased for $5,000. KSNA can be apart of this great humane gesture and touch the lives and promote success of children in Ghana.
During the 2011-12 school year, KSNA is committed to making a concerted effort to raise the necessary funds to purchase an irrigation system for a school garden in Ghana. We are asking all chapters to join with us in our fundraising efforts.  A fundraiser campaign is attached.

KSNA/UFWH GHANA PROJECT FUNDRAISER CAMPAIGN

National School Lunch Week is in October & April is Global Child Nutrition Month. KSNA Chapters should connect the two (2) months by collecting change from October 1, 2011 through April 1, 2012.
Suggested campaign ideas:

    • Decorate #10 cans, 1 gal. jars or small boxes to collect the change in. Students can assist with this.
    • Display the containers in accordance to your school fundraiser rules.
    • Promote the campaign at all district schools.
    • Promote competition among schools in your district, with a prize going to the school collecting the most change.
    • Aim for a goal of $250. Or more if possible.
    • Holiday time is especially a good time to collect additional change for needy causes. Charitable people are looking for a great cause to contribute to for the holidays. Most people are receptive to children’s causes.
    • Schedule a World Culture, International or World Food Day. Design a menu to introduce your customers to multicultural cuisine or food items. Ex.:  African Jollop Rice, Chinese Lo Mein, African Red-Red (Beans w/Beef or Chicken), African Akara (Blackeyed Pea Fritter), etc.
